While visiting a college campus, Megyn Kelly found herself in the middle of a heated debate about President Donald Trump, Charlie Kirk, and political violence.
On Wednesday, the former Fox News anchor took part in a Turning Point USA event at Virginia Tech University, following the death of the organization's founder, Kirk, who was killed during a campus event at Utah Valley University earlier this month. As Kirk often did under his "Prove Me Wrong" banner, the event invited audience members to engage with speakers about political ideals, promoting a fiery exchange between Kelly and a young attendee.
In an ABC News livestream of the event, a man who appears to be a student asked Kelly how she could support a president who "contributes to the rhetoric that got your friend Charlie killed."
He continued, "You saw his rally recently. He said, 'I hate my enemies.' [White House Deputy Chief of Staff] Stephen Miller said similar things. How can you support him when he contributed to what got Charlie killed?"
Kelly swiftly dismissed his points, stating that they "assume facts not in evidence" and are simply "not true."

The student went on to cite a study, recently removed from the Department of Justice website, which concluded that far-right extremists have committed "far more ideologically motivated homicides" than far-left or Islamist extremists since 1990.
"Seventy percent of political violence is committed by Republicans," he claimed, raising his voice as the crowd responded loudly. "Look it up."
Kelly replied, "Once you pull the crazies out of there, it is overwhelmingly left-wing violence."
Calling his argument "defamatory," "inappropriate," and "a blatant lie," Kelly then shut down the idea that it was "President Trump's rhetoric that led to an assassin killing our friend Charlie Kirk."
The student clarified, "No, I said he contributed to the political atmosphere, the tension."
Kelly shot back, "Well, then you have no point. Then your point is utterly empty."

The student then referenced an aside made by Trump at Kirk's Sunday memorial, asking: "Let's say [Kirk's killer is] a leftist. Even if that's true, does that make it okay for the sitting president of the United States to incite violence against liberals?"
The remark he alluded to came during Trump's turn at the podium, during the Sept. 21 memorial held to honor Kirk, a conservative commentator and vocal Trump supporter.
"He did not hate his opponents," Trump said of Kirk. "He wanted the best for them. That's where I disagreed with Charlie. I hate my opponent, and I don't want the best for them."
Addressing the comment, Kelly argued that Trump "made a joke that was funny and self-deprecating." She added that he has "every right to loathe his enemies" as they "tried to put him in jail for the rest of his life" and "bankrupt him."
Interrupting her remarks, the student replied, "Rightfully so, he's a criminal." When Kelly paused and indicated for him to continue talking, he thanked her for her time and walked away from the mic.

On Sep. 10, Kirk was shot in the neck during the first stop of his America Comeback Tour. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at age 31. Tyler Robinson, 22, has since been arrested for an alleged connection with the crime. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Kelly began a livestream of *The Megyn Kelly Show* to discuss the situation and about one hour and 18 minutes into the stream, teared up while announcing reports that Kirk had died.
After confirming the news on air, she said, "I am so sorry to be bringing this news. I'm sorry for what it means for our country, for Charlie, poor, dear Charlie and his family. I'm sorry for what it's gonna mean for the debates that we have yet to have, that he would have won. He would have put everyone to shame, as he had been. And I'm angry, really f---ing angry, about how this happened, why this happened."
