Fernando Mania invades Iowa City on Saturday as Indiana football's Heisman Trophy hopeful Fernando Mendoza brings the No. 12-ranked Hoosiers to Kinnick Stadium to face Iowa in a key, early-season Big Ten showdown.
Mendoza is the only quarterback in the Power Four with more than 10 touchdowns without an interception, and the Cal transfer's completion percentage of 76.8% ranks second nationally.
Indiana (4-0, 1-0) is coming off an eye-opening 63-10 win over Illinois, which entered the game ranked in the top-10 and left with its tail between its legs. Hoosiers coach Curt Cignetti, a Nick Saban disciple, is making sure his team avoids the proverbial "rat poison" after such an emphatic win.
Opinion: Indiana no longer the CFP whipping boy. Hoosiers doing the whipping now
College football Week 5 predictions: Who will win Saturday's big games?
"This will be a challenge, a more difficult challenge than the last one, that's for sure," Cignetti said of Saturday's trip to Iowa. "And the sooner our guys realize that, the better."
The Hawkeyes (3-1, 1-0) will need to rely on a sturdy offensive line and a transfer QB of their own (Mark Gronowski) if they're going to keep up with high-scoring Indiana. Illinois gave up seven sacks to the Hoosiers, who just teed off on Luke Altmeyer last Saturday.
"We're going to make it the most physical game you'll ever play," Iowa center Logan Jones, a native Hoosier, said in this week's buildup. "That's our goal, and that's the way we want to do things. Whether you're ranked or not, we're going to make it a tough game."

South Dakota State transfer Mark Gronowski has looked a bit more comfortable each week in the pocket for Iowa, but he's still not exactly lighting up the scoreboard like he did in the FCS. His winning resume — he's 52-7 in his career — won't be enough to overcome the significant gap between these two offenses.
Fernando Mendoza played like a Heisman contender last week, and his deep supporting cast will continue to reel off explosive plays.
Iowa won't be a push over at Kinnick Stadium with the same type of top-20 defense and standout special teams units that have become a stable for coach Kirk Ferentz during his long tenure. The best the Hawkeyes probably can hope for is avoiding a collapse like the Illini had against Curt Cignetti's squad. — Michael Niziolek, Bloomington Herald Times
