The Clarks Wallabee Goes Gorpcore

The Clarks Wallabee Goes Gorpcore

Save this story Save Story Save this story Clarks has been on one lately. Over the past few weeks, Moncler worked up the British footwear brand's signature Wallabee, while A.P.C. took on the Desert Boot and the Weaver. Now, Clarks has called in Italian shoemaker Diemme to drag three of its biggest silhouettes up a mountain.

(In case you don't spend all day thinking about Italian hiking boots , here's a primer: Diemme was founded in Montebelluna, a town in northern Italy with a very serious footwear-making history. The brand is best known for taking the kinda boots originally built for mountains and making them nice enough to wear with your very best trousers. Every pair is still made at its factory in Veneto, and the upcoming Clarks collection is, too.)

Courtesy of Clarks The main event is the Wallabee, of course. Diemme reworked the familiar moccasin-shaped shoe and covered it in pale “champagne” suede from Charles F. Stead, the British tannery responsible for some of the nicest fuzzy leather in footwear. So far, so classic. But then you get the thick rope laces and rubber mudguard wrapped around the bottom. Underneath, the OG crepe sole has been swapped out for the chunky, lugged unit found on Diemme's Roccia Vet and Cornaro boots. It makes the whole shoe sit higher and gives it enough tread to deal with more than a slightly sticky pub floor. Your ’Bees are now ready to hit the trails.

There are two more styles in the cross-branded collection. The Desert Boot comes in the classic “cola” brown suede, only now it's been fitted with a heavy-duty sole. Then there's the Desert Trek, which has been transformed into a mid-cut boot and made from black full-grain leather. It keeps the signature center seam and little Trek Man logo, but it's easily the biggest and baddest of the three, with metal D-rings running up the lacing system and a beefed up ankle for extra support.

The Diemme x Clarks collection is set to drop on November 5, purchasable through Diemme, Clarks, and select stockists globally.
