How to choose a brokerage account

The best online stock trading websites offer investor-friendly features and fees traders can easily justify. When it comes to choosing which brokerage account is best for you, consider the following features:

Price: When it comes to fees, you're in luck — fees have been dropping swiftly and most online brokers charge no trading commissions on stocks and ETFs.

Broker resources: You'll also want to consider factors such as research tools, the quality of the digital trading app, and the ability to place trades quickly and reliably, among other details.

Strategy: The account you really want will ultimately come down to your personal investment strategy — including how frequently you plan to trade and whether you're a beginner or are more experienced.

If other features are especially important to you, such as customer support, then be sure to factor those into your decision.

BEIJING (Reuters) -A GCL Technology Holdings official signalled in a call with investors on Sunday that more information on a plan to restructure China's polysilicon industry would be released soon.

"We believe that clearer information should come out soon about the reform, and we will have a better grasp of how our future cash flow will go," GCL's Chief Financial Officer Yang Wenzhong said in response to a question about a proposed acquisition fund. He added it was "not 100 percent certain" that reform would happen this year.

Yang said GCL may use some of its own cash to support the reform but did not yet know how much, so was being very careful in managing its funds.

A previous proposal by GCL to restructure the industry, of which management did not provide further details in the meeting, would see GCL and other top producers buy up and shut down about one-third of the industry's capacity. Expectations are that would increase prices and the higher prices would be passed on to the loss-making solar panel industry downstream.

Analysts have said it is unclear where the money would come from in the highly indebted industry, although banks were likely to be one source of financing for the restructuring.

Yang also told investors GCL Technology would likely make a profit in August and September. Polysilicon spot prices have risen as Chinese regulators have signalled they would crack down on companies selling at overly low prices.

GCL's losses for the first half of 2025, before the anti-price war movement, widened to 1.78 billion yuan ($249.6 million), the company reported on Friday.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Hirving Lozano and Anders Dreyer scored, and San Diego FC spoiled the home debut of Los Angeles FC forward Son Heung-min with a 2-1 victory Sunday night.

After Dreyer got the tiebreaking goal in the 66th minute, Western Conference-leading San Diego held on against a barrage of LAFC chances to extend its unbeaten streak to six matches in MLS play.

Denis Bouanga scored in the first half for LAFC, but the French star and Son both failed to convert golden scoring chances in the final minutes of expansion San Diego's first trip 120 miles north to BMO Stadium. CJ Dos Santos made three saves for the visitors, including a diving stop on Son in second-half injury time.

Son was given a hero's welcome in his first match in Los Angeles, taking the field nearly four weeks after LAFC announced the landmark signing of the South Korean star following his decade at Tottenham. Son played his first three matches on the road for LAFC, scoring a goal and immediately energizing the offense while his new club went unbeaten.

The sellout crowd serenaded Son from the moment he stepped on the field for warmups in Los Angeles, which has the world's largest Korean population outside Korea. With thousands of fans wearing his jerseys for club and country, Son repeatedly waved to those cheering him on, and he exhorted the crowd into a frenzy right before kickoff.

Bouanga put LAFC ahead in the 15th minute with a beautiful chip volley into San Diego's net off an excellent pass from teenager David Martínez. Bouanga's goal was his 15th of the season, all in his last 19 matches.

But Lozano answered in the 33rd minute with a strike from the middle of the box for his ninth MLS goal. The Mexican national team star celebrated by taunting the famously raucous North End supporters' section.

Dreyer put San Diego ahead with a individual effort by the Danish star, slipping behind LAFC's back line to collect Jeppe Tverskov's pass and juking two defenders before firing a left-footed shot for his 14th goal.

LAFC controlled play for long stretches, but couldn't even it.

Son hit a screamer toward the far top corner in the 45th minute, but Dos Santos made a superb leaping save.

Hugo Lloris' long pass put Son in a one-on-one break in the 74th minute, but he couldn't get a shot off.

Son then hit the post in the 78th minute with a shot from the top of the box.

Bouanga got alone on the keeper in the 82nd minute, but waited too long to take a shot.

Son's hard shot in the 92nd minute was saved by a diving Dos Santos.

Carter Davis kicked a 47-yard field goal with 1:04 remaining, Carson Beck passed for two touchdowns in his Miami debut and the No. 10 Hurricanes never trailed while recording a 27-24 victory over No. 6 Notre Dame on Sunday night in the season opener for both teams at Miami Gardens, Fla.

CJ Daniels made an acrobatic touchdown grab and Malachi Toney had six receptions for 82 yards and one score for the Hurricanes. CharMar Brown tacked on a rushing score and Rueben Bain had a key interception for Miami.

Redshirt freshman CJ Carr was 19-of-30 passing for 221 yards, two touchdowns and one interception and also rushed for a score in his first career start for Notre Dame. Micah Gilbert and Jordan Faison had scoring receptions for the Fighting Irish.

Star running back Jeremiyah Love had just 33 yards on 10 carries for Notre Dame, which lost to Ohio State in last season's national championship game.

Beck, who transferred from Georgia, completed 12 in a row at one point and finished 20 of 31 for 205 yards.

After the Fighting Irish scored 10 straight points to tie it at 24, Miami moved 46 yards on 10 plays and Davis showed good length with his boot through the uprights to put the Hurricanes ahead.

Miami's pass rush then kicked into a higher gear by forcing an intentional grounding -- that resulted in a 10-second runoff -- and notching a sack to finish off the victory.

The Fighting Irish made it a one-score game when Noah Burnette booted a 39-yard field goal with 5:32 remaining to cut their deficit to 24-17.

Notre Dame forced a three-and-out to quickly get the ball back. On the first play, Miami had a breakdown in coverage and Eli Raridon (five catches, 97 yards) was wide open at midfield and raced to the 10-yard line to complete a 65-yard play.

Two plays later, Carr scored on a 7-yard quarterback draw to tie the score with 3:21 to play.

Miami led 14-7 at halftime before opening the third quarter with a stellar 12-play, 75-yard drive that took seven minutes, 37 seconds. Brown finished the excursion with a 5-yard run to give the Hurricanes a 14-point advantage.

The Fighting Irish moved within seven on the first play of the final quarter when Carr tossed a 1-yard scoring pass in the right flat to Faison.

Notre Dame got the ball back less than three minutes later but Miami's Keionte Scott tipped a pass thrown toward the sideline and two other players -- one from each team -- deflected the ball before Bain collected it and returned it 15 yards to the Fighting Irish 28.

The takeaway set up a 38-yard field goal by Davis as the Hurricanes took a 24-14 lead with 9:42 remaining.

Miami scored with 12 seconds left in the first half on Beck's 20-yard pass to Daniels, who leaped and caught the ball with his right hand to give the Hurricanes a 14-7 lead.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — There were a couple things going through Marcus Freeman's head when he saw CJ Carr scampering around to extend the play then finding receiver Micah Gilbert in the end zone for the quarterback's first collegiate touchdown.

"Throw it away! Throw it away! Throw it away!" Freeman, Notre Dame's head coach, recalled repeating in his head after the game. "I couldn't see exactly what was going on. I watched him spin out. And usually when you're feeling pressure it's like, 'Throw the ball the away! Don't throw the ball across our body! He kept his eyes down field and made a play.

"We don't draw them up like that. But those are plays that CJ Carr can make."

Carr had an uneven performance in No. 6 Notre Dame's 27-24 loss to No. 10 Miami on Sunday night, but that touchdown pass — which tied it at 7 in the second quarter — was an example of the playmaking ability that won the freshman quarterback the starting job. And that gave Freeman confidence in Carr's ability to respond strongly to Sunday's loss, and potentially lead Notre Dame back to the national title game.

Carr hadn't thrown a collegiate pass before Sunday — he appeared in one game last year, mop-up duty in a 66-7 rout at Purdue — but nearly helped the Fighting Irish rally from a 14-point deficit against the Hurricanes. The 20-year-old finished 19 of 30 for 221 yards with two touchdown passes and an interception, along with a rushing score with 3:21 left that tied the game.

"His ceiling is so high," Freeman said. "He's going to have to take this loss and not let it eat at him too much. He's a gamer. He performs when the lights are on. He prepares his tail off. He's going to do great things. It's just the start for him."

Freeman said part of the offensive gameplan was to create easy decisions and throws to help Carr establish a rhythm, heavily leaning on the run-pass option. Freeman added that Carr was making the right reads on the RPOs early, but as the game went on, the young quarterback needed to hand the ball to dynamic running back Jeremiyah Love to help establish the run game.

Love, who many believe will be the centerpiece to Notre Dame's offense, finished with 10 carries for 33 yards and caught four passes for 26 yards, but there were times in the game that he was barely involved in the offense. The Fighting Irish were outgained on the ground 119-93.

"I need to continue to get a better feel for what our offense needs at the moment," Carr said. "A lot of the time, it's going to be Jeremiyah Love. On the pick, I should have just given him the ball. It cost us."

Carr this year replaces former Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard, who led the Irish to 13 straight wins last season before falling 34-23 to Ohio State in the CFP national championship game. Leonard was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in April.

He's from a family with a rich football pedigree — his father, Jason, was a quarterback at Michigan — and he knows how to respond to a loss.

"Tonight wasn't good enough out of me specifically," Carr said. "We've got to get better. My dad always said the only way to get rid of a loss is with a win."

ZANDVOORT, Netherlands (AP) — Monza is where the magic happens for Ferrari. And the Italian Grand Prix couldn't come at a better time.

Formula 1's annual pilgrimage to the "Temple of Speed" this week brings a chance for Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc to rebound from race-ending crashes at the Dutch Grand Prix on Sunday. It was only Ferrari's second Grand Prix this year without scoring points and Hamilton also picked up a grid penalty for Monza.

The only Italian on the grid, Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli, wants to "put in the trash" a practice crash at Monza last year, and make up for ending Leclerc's race on Sunday. Success has been rare for Italian drivers at Monza, though.

Lewis Hamilton's 'unique experience'

There isn't much that seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton hasn't done in F1, but racing for Ferrari at Monza will be something "unique."

It's Hamilton's 19th race at the high-speed Italian track, but his first in red.

He's spoken of wanting to enjoy his racing again after a difficult start with Ferrari, and insisted Sunday he'd made progress despite sliding into the barriers at the Dutch Grand Prix, "so to come away with that is definitely painful."

Worse was to come later that day as Hamilton was handed a five-place grid penalty for the Italian Grand Prix for failing to slow down enough for yellow flags before Sunday's race at Zandvoort.

Hamilton had a taste of racing in red in Italy at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola in May, and dedicated his result — fourth place — to the Ferrari fans. He still hasn't been able to get onto the podium in a Grand Prix race for Ferrari.

"The support this team has around the world from the Tifosi is unmatched and so I'm sure it'll be a unique experience," Hamilton said last week.

A history of excellence

Even some of Ferrari's most troubled F1 seasons have been redefined by success at Monza, like in 1988 when Gerhard Berger took an emotional first win for the team since the death of founder Enzo Ferrari.

Leclerc won there in his first Ferrari season in 2019 and again last year.

"I think our first experiences are going to be very different because Lewis has lived so many incredible moments already," Leclerc said Thursday.

"I'm pretty sure that he will still be shocked by how special this week feels, but he's gone through a lot more than I had done back then. I just came from Sauber to win in Monza with Ferrari, which was unbelievable. So it was all at once and it was quite crazy."

Antonelli's bad memories

It's been 20 years since an Italian driver was on the Monza podium.

Kimi Antonelli arrived in F1 with plenty of hype as the youngster succeeding Hamilton at Mercedes. Crashing 10 minutes into his first F1 practice session for Mercedes at Monza last year was a tough introduction.

"I have amazing memories, but also really, really bad ones," Antonelli said last week. "It's going to be important to just have a clean weekend, clean sessions and just put in the trash what happened. I think it's going to be a really special weekend."

Putting Antonelli in the car a year ago was a gamble and "maybe a mistake", Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff admitted Friday, but argued it would have been a major confidence-builder without the crash.

Antonelli has two points finishes in his last nine races after a strong start to 2025. He was competitive on pace at the Dutch Grand Prix but it all went wrong when he tried to overtake Leclerc and instead tipped the Ferrari driver into the barrier. Mercedes has yet to formally confirm Antonelli or teammate George Russell for 2026.

A new tropical storm has formed in the eastern Pacific Ocean, more than 1,000 miles off the coast of Mexico. There was no immediate threat to land.

Tropical Storm Kiko developed early Sunday and is expected to become a hurricane later this week, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami. The hurricane center did not issue any coastal watches or warnings.

"Strengthening is expected during the next couple of days, and the system is forecast to become a hurricane by Tuesday," the hurricane center said.

The storm's center was located about 1,045 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California.

Its maximum sustained winds were clocked at 40 mph. It is moving west at a speed of 9 mph.

Tropical storms have wind speeds of between 39 mph and 73 mph. It becomes a hurricane when the wind speed reaches 74 mph. A storm is considered a major hurricane if the wind speed goes over 110 mph, according to the NHC.

Kiko is the 11th named storm in the Eastern North Pacific this year.

So far this year, Tropical Storm Chantal is the only one to have made landfall in the U.S., bringing deadly flooding to North Carolina in early July. In June, Barry made landfall as a tropical depression on Mexico's eastern coast.

Taylor Townsend's singles campaign at the US Open has come to an end after suffering a loss to Barbora Krejcikova in the fourth round on Sunday, Aug. 31.

Krejcikova completed her comeback to defeat Townsend, 1-6, 7-6 (15-13), 6-3.

Townsend became a topic of conversation last week after an incident with Jelena Ostapenko following their match. Townsend stated that Ostapenko told her that she had "no class" and "no education."

While Townsend has been eliminated from singles play, she will continue to compete in New York.

The 29-year-old has teamed up with Katerina Siniakova as the No. 1-seeded women's doubles team in the tournament. The duo is coming off a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Alycia Parks and Dayana Yastremska in the second round on Saturday.

The duo is expected to compete on Monday in the third round. An opponent and time have not been determined.

HOUSTON (AP) — José Soriano and two relievers combined for a two-hitter and Oswald Peraza hit his first home run since a trade from the Yankees to lead the Los Angeles Angels to a 3-0 win over the Houston Astros on Sunday.

Soriano (10-9) allowed one hit and struck out eight in seven innings. Luis García allowed one hit in a scoreless eighth and Kenley Jansen threw a perfect ninth for his 25th save.

There were two outs in the fifth when Peraza connected off Hunter Brown (10-7) into the bullpen in right-center field to put the Angels up 1-0. His homer comes after his two-run single in the ninth inning Saturday helped Los Angeles to a 4-1 victory that snapped a three-game skid.

Yoan Moncada walked to start the eighth and scored on Mike Trout's double that bounced off the wall in center field to make it 2-0. Taylor Ward walked before Luis Rengifo reached and Trout scored on an error by Lance McCullers Jr. when the pitcher overthrew first base.

Yordan Alvarez singled with no outs in the first and Soriano walked a batter in the second and sixth innings. The Astros didn't get another hit until Ramón Urías doubled with one out in the eighth inning. Los Angeles outfielder Taylor Ward was injured trying to make a catch on that hit when he crashed face-first into the metal scoreboard in left field.

He was carted off the field holding a towel to the right side of his face. There was no immediate update on his injury.

Brown allowed three hits and a run with five strikeouts in six innings. McCullers Jr. allowed three hits and two runs in his first relief appearance since 2018.

Key stat

When it comes to your personal money management strategy, sometimes it's best to get back to basics. Whether you are looking to improve your credit score, develop saving money habits or boost your financial literacy, there are many positive steps you can take to build wealth.

Trending Now: 3 Signs You've 'Made It' Financially, According to Financial Influencer Genesis Hinckley

For You: 6 Things You Must Do When Your Savings Reach $50,000

Financial expert and bestselling author Suze Orman, who has an estimated net worth of about $75 million, is known for her easy-to-follow, no-nonsense money advice that can help people find financial freedom. She is famous for saying, "You are never powerful in life until you are powerful over your own money."

Here are five of her best money rules to get you started.

Trending Now: Suze Orman's Secret to a Wealthy Retirement--Have You Made This Money Move?

Rule 1: Tackle Your Credit Card Debt

Orman frequently speaks about living within your means. One way to do that is to tackle your credit card debt. She recommends that individuals call their credit card issuer and ask for the interest rate to be lowered.

She notes that the average interest rate on credit cards is around 22%, which is high. So, a good money rule of thumb is asking for a reduction to help save you substantial amounts of money each month.

She also suggests seeing whether you qualify for a "balance transfer deal." In some cases, you might be able to snag a zero-interest rate for a 12- to 18-month period. Over that time, you can work to pay off your balance without having to worry about the interest.

Rule 2: Establish an Emergency Fund

Another area that Orman regularly recommends is to have a healthy emergency fund. She often recommends that you should aim "to have an emergency savings fund that can cover up to 12 months of living costs."

An emergency fund can help to ensure you can withstand any financial hardships that come along.

Rule 3: Create an Action Plan

Orman firmly believes in creating a financial action plan, such as her 5-Step Financial Action Plan on Oprah.com. In it, she suggests that individuals pay off their credit card debt and raise their FICO scores before creating spending, savings and retirement strategies.

Your spending action plan begins with separating all of your expenses into wants and needs. Next, you identify all of the wants. Then, you eliminate the wants if you do not have sufficient savings or are carrying large amounts of debt.

Rule 4: Automate Your Savings

Orman also routinely recommends you automate your savings. Her reasoning behind automation is it "is a proven way to stay committed to a savings goal."

She notes that it doesn't necessarily matter how much you are moving over, as long as you are moving it over consistently. She said, "Having money zapped from your checking account into your savings accounts is free, too. The 'set it and forget it' approach is how you will reach your savings goals."

If you are looking for ways to start doing this, you could try something like the 50/30/20 rule, which is a budgeting option to break down and allocate your paycheck into percentages. For example, each money, you could automatically allocate 50% of your funds to cover things you need, 30% to things you want and 20% can get directly deposited into our high-yield savings account.

Rule 5: Open a Roth Account

Finally, Orman said individuals — particularly young adults — should open Roth accounts. She even suggests that parents set up a Roth account for their children if they can.

Outside of real estate, investing in retirement accounts should be one of your biggest money moves. Make sure to do the maximum amount of contributions if possible.

Final Take To GO: Take Your First Financial Step Today

According to Orman, there are several steps you can take to assert control over your finances — and it's never too late to get started. Orman's advice is beloved because it is uncomplicated. The simplicity allows people to be able to follow it and meet their financial goals in a reasonable amount of time.
