Brilliant Earth has welcomed its first athlete brand ambassador: tennis star Madison Keys.
On Thursday, Aug. 21, the sustainability-focused fine jewelry brand unveiled a limited-edition medallion necklace with several meaningful touches.
One side of the 14k gold medallion features embossed charms: a horseshoe, sun, moon, heart and key. The other side has a racket motif, a pavé diamond lucky clover and nine diamonds along the outer edge.
"The nine diamonds around the face are because nine is my favorite number, and it's always kind of been my lucky number," she tells PEOPLE. "On the back, it's kind of all of my little charms or things that mean the most to me. And then the basket weave is a symbol of tennis strings."
"It's like all of the little pieces that mean a lot to me that have kind of helped me get through my journey," she explains.
Working with Brilliant Earth was a no-brainer for the tennis star, who has long admired the brand's impact in the market for lab-grown diamonds as well as its unique artistry.

"When the partnership came about as an option, I was like, 'Yes, I am the perfect person, because I've already been a huge fan," she says, adding that the collaboration feels "natural and authentic."
"To me it was like this is something that I could speak about all day long because I've been a jewelry girl since I was little," she continues.

"We are honored to welcome Madison Keys as our first athlete ambassador," Pam Catlett, Chief Brand Officer for Brilliant Earth, shared in a press release in June, when Leys was announced as ambassador. "Madison's dedication to her craft, her advocacy for kindness, and her authentic approach to life align perfectly with our mission to create jewelry that celebrates beauty and responsibility. Just as Madison creates unforgettable moments on the tennis court, we believe in crafting meaningful pieces that capture life's most precious experiences and milestones."
Keys, who has won ten career singles titles, including the 2025 Australian Open, played in the U.S. Open on Tuesday, Aug. 19.
"I have a lot of really, really wonderful moments from the U.S. Open," Keys reflected when speaking withi PEOPLE the day before the match. "I also have a few heartbreakers, which I feel makes a relationship a lot more real when you can say that you still love a place after having some low moments as well."
Nonetheless, she adds, it remains "one of my favorite places to play."
"The fans are incredible," she continues. "I have incredible crowd support at the U.S. Open, but it's just a very different feel from any other Grand Slam. It's definitely the rowdiest, the loudest, and I've always really enjoyed that and kind of thrived on that energy."
