The couple tells PEOPLE the intimate nuptials were "a dream come true"
Ricky Schroder and Julie Trammel have said "I do."
The NYPD Blue star, 55, and the theater actress — who changed her last name to Schroder following the nuptials — announced the news in a joint post on Instagram on Aug. 20, sharing photos from the seaside beach wedding. The couple later confirmed their marriage to PEOPLE, revealing that they tied the knot on July 9 at the Four Seasons in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
They chose their venue after watching the latest season of The White Lotus. "The Four Seasons was on our mind," they tell PEOPLE. "Cabo is much closer than Thailand!"
They say they obtained their marriage license at the Ouray County courthouse in Colorado on July 2, and wanted to have their wedding there just days later on the Fourth of July — but the building was closed for the holiday. So they pivoted to a beach ceremony in Cabo.

As for the guest list, the couple says it was "just the two of us" at the private nuptials. "We envisioned an intimate ceremony on the beach to celebrate our love," Ricky and Julie, 40, say, describing their wedding day as "a dream come true."
When they revealed their marriage on Instagram last week, Ricky commented on the post, "I didn't want the evening to ever end…so I married you 🌸."

One wedding photo in the carousel shows the couple holding hands as they stood on a beach under a makeshift altar made from white silks and multicolored flowers. They beamed at the camera as they marked the beginning of their married life.
The bride wore a lace embroidered white gown, which she paired with a simple pearl necklace and a bouquet of white roses. She also wore sparkly flats to walk on the sand. As for the groom, he sported a simple black suit and tie with a pink rose boutonniere and black shoes.

A second photo captures the pair embracing with their foreheads touching, and a third snapshot shows the two posing in front of a white building while holding hands. Ricky his suit with a matching white and black cap as the couple appeared to celebrate their wedding afterparty.
The wedding comes one year after the Sound of Music theater actress announced the couple's engagement on Instagram alongside a sentimental piano performance dedicated to her husband-to-be at the time.
In the video, the actress played the classic song "What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?" on a black grand piano as she sang along to the lyrics, while Ricky recorded the performance.
"What are you doing the rest of your life?" I'll be doing mine with Ricky," Julie captioned the post. The actor reshared her video on his Instagram Stories, writing, "I love Julie."
The couple tells PEOPLE they first met through a mutual friend. Ricky popped the question at home "by the fireside" over Memorial Day weekend last year.

Julie first began featuring the SIlver Spoons actor on her Instagram in January 2024, while sharing photos from their trip to Israel.

Since then, the pair have shared numerous photos and videos on social media together, documenting their growing relationship.
As they embrace this new chapter as husband and wife, Ricky and Julie tell PEOPLE, "Ours hearts are grateful, our consciousness has increased and our spirits awakened. You never know what's around the corner… for us, it was love."
