Bryan Fuller would love to see Zendaya go from swinging with everyone's friendly neighborhood Spider-Man to locking horns with his favorite cannibalistic serial killer.

A decade after Fuller's NBC series *Hannibal* came to an end, the writer and producer is sharing a dream casting for a follow-up to the TV adaptation inspired by Thomas Harris' novels that became a fan-favorite during its three-season run.**

"My dream project is to do a limited series of *Silence of the Lambs* with [*Hannibal* star] Mads [Mikkelsen] and Zendaya as Clarice Starling," Fuller told ScreenRant at this year's Toronto International Film Festival. "If I could put anything out into the universe, I would put that into the universe."

*Hannibal* starred Mikkelsen as the titular cannibal, Hannibal Lecter, and Hugh Dancy as FBI profiler Will Graham, and aired its final season in 2015. The show focused on parts of Harris' *Hannibal *novel and spent its last arc adapting Harris' *Red Dragon*, but never got around to the author's most famous Hannibal Lecter story, *The Silence of the Lambs*.

In 2019, Fuller admitted that he wanted to tackle the story, but rights to Clarice's character got in the way.

"We still hope that something can be worked out where we continue telling Hannibal Lecter stories and see *The Silence of the Lambs *in a way that the book hasn't been represented," Fuller said during an appearance on Blumhouse's *Shock Waves* podcast at the time. "I think the film adaptation is a perfect film, but there's a lot of interesting nooks and crannies in that book to explore in a television series."

Fuller said the show's ending was never intended to be final, and the story could potentially continue in the form of a short miniseries (a la Fox's six-episode revival of *The X-Files)*.

"There weren't going to be any bodies found floating in that lagoon. And the whole point of showing Gillian Anderson sitting at a table with two additional place settings and her leg on the table was there was a big splash and dinner guests are coming," Fuller said. "I think, ideally, for the cast, it would be as a miniseries, here and there. Let's do six to eight episodes of that, and six to eight episodes over here. And do it as an irregular thing."**

Talks of a revival or continuation have frequently come up since its finale, with Fuller teasing in 2017 that "conversations" of a possible *Hannibal* revival had begun. Even as recently as 2023, Mikkelsen declared that "there's always a chance" fans can get to see more *Hannibal* if the timing is right.

Still, no such series has been officially announced yet.**

While Clarice never made her debut in the NBC series, she is a notable character in the Hannibal lore. Jodie Foster originated the character's onscreen depiction in Jonathan Demme's 1991 film version of *Silence of the Lambs, *in which she played the FBI trainee opposite Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal.

The film became one of the most lauded movies of the last 25 years, winning Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (for Foster), and Best Actor (for Hopkins).

Julianne Moore took over the role in *Hannibal* (2001), before Rebecca Breeds played the character in the 2021 CBS series adaptation *Clarice*, which was set after the events of the book.

Since *Hannibal*, Fuller has had a complicated track record with TV. Alongside Michael Green, he was co-showrunner of Starz's adaptation of Neil Gaiman's *American Gods*, but they both left after season 1. He co-created *Star Trek: Discovery* but departed before the series premiere. Now he has left *Crystal Lake* as well, though as of 2022 he was also working on *Dust Bunny*, his feature film debut.

Most recently, Fuller departed from his role as writer and showrunner of A24's *Friday the 13th* prequel series, *Crystal Lake*. In May 2024, Fuller announced on X that he experienced creative differences with A24 over the series, and the production company decided to "go a different way with the material."

In 2023, Fuller was sued for sexual harassment by Sam Wineman, a producer and director he had worked with on the Shudder documentary series *Queer for Fear*. Fuller denies the accusations, which his lawyer Bryan Freedman called "absolute garbage." Soon after he announced his departure from *Crystal Lake, *it was reported that a Los Angeles judge ruled the lawsuit would go into arbitration.
