**This article contains spoilers about the first six episodes of *Love Is Blind* season 9.****
*Love Is Blind* season 9 cast member Kacie McIntosh is finally speaking out about her controversial breakup with Patrick Suzuki — and she tells ** that she didn't intend for it to be a breakup at all.
After getting engaged in the pods and experiencing an awkward in-person reveal, Kacie decided she didn't want to go to Mexico with Patrick. What followed in episode 6 was a confusing scene where Kacie told Patrick she didn't want to continue with the TV show. She cried but continued to kiss and caress him, even straddling him to make out at one point, so he left the conversation believing they were going to continue to date off the show; however, Kacie told producers on-camera that she knew she wouldn't "grow" an attraction to him.
Now, Kacie tells EW that her decision to leave the show had nothing to do with Patrick's looks and that she wanted to continue dating when they got back to Denver as well.
"No, I did not end things with Patrick over his appearance," Kacie says. "I wanted to see if love was truly blind. At that point, I had met him and everything, I just did not want to proceed going through it knowing that I am a person that wears her heart on her sleeve, and I didn't know if the attraction could grow or not. I really wanted to take the show part out of the experience of him and I and come back to Denver and meet up and talk and see if there was a way of us dating slowly when we came back."

Kacie claims that she was not actually ending things with Patrick at all that night in the hotel. In fact, she says she was "hoping" they could "start" dating when they both returned to Denver.
"We do have a lot in common, a lot of activities and stuff," she says. "I was always saying, 'I'm up to talk to you, I'm up to hang out with you and see where this goes.' I wasn't like, 'I never want to see you again. We're done.'"
But she understands why people think she was trying to end things with Patrick during that conversation in the hotel.
"That moment is so interesting because I am going through a million things through my head," she says. "And I get it, nobody can catch up with what I'm feeling. I'm saying one thing at one moment and then I'm feeling something at a different moment. At first I was feeling like, 'I don't know if the attraction can grow or if I should proceed with this.' And then he showed up to the hotel and I honestly felt this sense of relief."
Kacie says she felt "really comfortable" with Patrick in person when he showed up to the hotel, which made her begin to doubt her decision to not go to Mexico with him. She also believes that's why it looks like she was sending mixed signals to him.

"That's something I'm just going to own up to here," Kacie says. "At the time when I was speaking to producers and then I was doing the actual on-camera stuff, I was very emotional, in my head, and — I will stand by this — I was super confused. It just wasn't really connecting for me when I first met him, like this is actually a stranger, and I went back to my hotel and I did crash out pretty hard."
That's when she decided to have the conversation with producers and, ultimately, Patrick about leaving the show. She acknowledges, however, that she wasn't 100 percent honest with Patrick during their conversation about her lack of attraction to him.
"I was confused and I did say all those things, and I feel really horrible because I did not confess that to him in the moment," Kacie says. "I'm touching him and loving on him and telling him I love him because when he showed up, I was like, 'Oh, I am comfortable in his arms. Am I making a huge mistake here?' And for the past year and seven months, I've sat on that every night. Did I make a huge mistake? Should I have gone to Baja with him?"

But Kacie also stands by what she originally told producers about how she knew she wouldn't grow an attraction to Patrick, and that it wasn't fair to him to continue their engagement on the trip to Mexico.
"Prior to him being there, I did say those things, because I know me, and I just know attraction can only grow so much," she says. "And that's just human of me. He was already feeling a certain way, and I did not want to make it worse, and I did not want to fake anything or fake my emotions."
She doesn't regret her decision now that she's seen the first six episodes and watched Patrick fall in love with Anna Yuan first (Anna ultimately left the show without saying goodbye to Patrick, which is when he pivoted to focusing on his connection with Kacie).

"I am glad I left, because I did not know he had this other connection and this other love story that looks pretty great to me," Kacie says. "They look like they would've been a match. So something in my body just told me to leave, and now that it all plays out like that, thank goodness I did, because although I loved him and I care about him, it does look like, to me, I was the second choice. I was the backup plan."
Kacie wants to make it clear to viewers that it's a "very complicated" situation, however, and isn't as black-and-white as some may think.
"I'll never be able to really explain," she says. "I know everybody's like, 'You said this, you did this.' Yeah, I did. I guess the best way to describe it is you're dating somebody on an app or something, and then you see him in person and you're like, 'I don't know.' I did know in that moment that we cannot go on this honeymoon with my feelings being so all over the place."

As for her complaints about the show being "heavily edited," Kacie explains that she was referring to not seeing her entire love with Patrick in the episodes.
"My experience on the show was great, and I know it's a TV show and they have to edit it," she says. "But watching that, I was kind of like, 'That's definitely not me and my personality.' There's only so much you can put in, but watching it, it wasn't my love story and I would've loved to see more of us falling in love."
