Sorry, mutants: Nicholas Hoult will miss a planned appearance at New York Comic Con this weekend.**
The English actor, 35, was scheduled to appear at an *X-Men* reunion panel alongside former costars James McAvoy and Elliot Page on Sunday, Oct. 12, but has since been advised not to fly during recovery from knee surgery.
"I'm so sorry to tell you that I won't be able to join you this time," Hoult said in a video message shared by the convention on social media. "Unfortunately, I had knee surgery a couple of weeks ago and I can't walk or fly yet, so I'm not going to be able to make it."**
"I was really looking forward to it, so I'm sorry," Hoult added. "I hope you have a wonderful weekend and hopefully I'll be joining you in the near future and get to see you all soon."
The convention wished Hoult a speedy recovery and noted that pre-purchased autographs and photo ops with Hoult will be refunded.**

Hoult, who played Hank McCoy/Beast in the X-Men franchise, had been set for a retrospective reunion that promises behind-the-scenes stories and character insights alongside fellow fan favorites McAvoy (Professor Charles Xavier) and Page (Kitty Pryde), scheduled for 12 p.m. Sunday on the Empire Stage.**
The actor previously revealed that he tore his ACL while playing basketball during an appearance on the *SmartLess *podcast in July. Hoult said he delayed surgery in order to continue his press tour for James Gunn's *Superman*, in which he portrays villain Lex Luthor, as well as continue work on David Leitch's upcoming heist *How to Rob a Bank.***

"I'm rehabbing at the moment," Hoult said on the podcast.
"You can hobble around on it?" co-host Jason Bateman asked.
"I can get around right now, yeah," Hoult said. "But if I did the surgery I think I couldn't for a while."

An incredulous Bateman asked Hoult how he intended to complete Leitch's film given the injury. "There's stunts in that," Bateman noted. "There's going to be activity in that. How are you gonna do that?"
Hoult said he was "going to figure that out," adding, "That's why I'm rehabbing at the moment. We'll see how strong I get."
