Cal Raleigh let his bat say a lot on MLB Players' Weekend, carrying a stick that said "Big butt... bigger bombs" written on it.

Then the All-Star catcher swung that bat and continued what's been a dream season for the Seattle Mariners' slugger. Raleigh hit his 46th home run of the season off the New York Mets' Sean Manaea, a two-run shot in the third inning that put Seattle on top, 4-3.

[Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season]

Driving in two runs with the homer also gave Raleigh 100 RBI for the season. That matched his career-high, set last season, and also made Raleigh the first catcher since Mike Piazza in 1999 and 2000 with 100 RBI in consecutive seasons while playing at least 50% of his games behind the plate. (Piazza did it in five consecutive seasons from 1996-2000.)

— MLB (@MLB) August 15, 2025

Raleigh is the first American League hitter to reach 100 RBI this season and only trails the Philadelphia Phillies' Kyle Schwarber, who has 101 after his three-run homer on Friday versus the Washington Nationals. (Raleigh actually got to 100 RBI first before Schwarber overtook him.)

However, it's Raleigh's home run total that media and fans will keep their eyes on through the final six weeks of the season. With homer No. 46, he leapfrogged Johnny Bench into second place for most home runs by a catcher in a single season. He's now two away from tying Salvador Perez's single-season record with 48 homers, set in 2021 with the Kansas City Royals.

And if you don't know by now what the "big butt" on his Players' Weekend bat refers to, it's the reason for his nickname, "The Big Dumper." Former teammate Jarred Kelenic tagged him with that for his large backside and ability to hit clutch home runs.

"Big butt... even BIGGER BOMBS!"Cal Raleigh may have won Players' Weekend with this inscription on his bat 🍑 pic.twitter.com/6sUq0lOJVX

— MLB (@MLB) August 15, 2025

Raleigh is also moving up the all-time list for most home runs in a single season by a switch-hitter. His 46th homer moved him ahead of Lance Berkman and Chipper Jones for the third-highest total in a season. Only Mickey Mantle — who hit 52 homers in 1956 and 54 in 1961 — is ahead of him now.

Additionally, Raleigh tied Mantle by hitting 46 home runs in his team's first 123 games of the season, according to MLB.com's Sarah Langs. That will be one record Raleigh doesn't set this year.

However, the Mariners have 39 games remaining on their schedule after Friday's 11-9 win over the Mets. He has plenty of opportunity to put himself atop the lists for most home runs by a catcher and by a switch-hitter in a single season. Would anyone dare to bet against him at this point?

Oh, and Seattle is 1.5 games behind the Houston Astros for first place in the AL West and currently hold the league's No. 1 wild-card playoff spot. Raleigh is doing all of this in games that matter, his home runs making maximum impact for the Mariners' fortunes.

NEW YORK (AP) — Cal Raleigh hit his major league-leading 46th homer, sparked a five-run seventh inning with his first double in over a month and the Seattle Mariners set a team record with nine doubles to beat the skidding New York Mets 11-9 on Friday night.

Raleigh hit a two-run shot to the second deck in left field and became the first player to reach 100 RBIs this season to give the Mariners a 4-3 lead in the third. He helped the Mariners rally from a 6-5 deficit in the seventh with his first double since June 27 and then doubled again in the eighth.

The comeback helped Seattle overcome two homers by Francisco Lindor. Lindor hit a leadoff homer and then a two-run shot in the fourth for a 5-4 lead. Juan Soto also homered and Francisco Alvarez hit a three-run shot in the eighth but the Mets lost for the 14th time in 16 games.

After Raleigh scored the tying run on a double by Eugenio Suárez off Ryan Helsley (3-4), Dominic Canzone followed with a go-ahead RBI double off Brooks Raley.

Donavan Solano hit an RBI double off the top of the left field wall and rookie Cole Young capped the big inning with a two-run double.

Mitch Garver homered and Julio Rodriguez hit a pair of RBI doubles as the Mariners won for the 10th time in 13 games. Young added an RBI single to get Seattle within one run in the sixth.

Seattle starter Luis Castillo tied a season worst by allowing six runs and nine hits in four innings.

New York starter Sean Manaea allowed four runs and six hits in five innings.

Key moment

After Jackson Kowar allowed Alvarez's homer, Matt Brash retired Lindor to end the eighth and Andrés Muñoz converted his 29th save.

Key stats

Raleigh has matched his career high with his 100th RBI in his 448th at-bat. Last season, he finished with 100 RBIs in 546 at-bats.

The Philadelphia Eagles enter the 2025 NFL season as the favorites to take home another championship after winning Super Bowl 59 in dominant fashion last season.

Philadelphia fielded one of the best offenses in the NFL last season thanks to stars like running back Saquon Barkley, offensive tackles Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson, quarterback Jalen Hurts and wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.

Only two of those players were not drafted by the Eagles: Barkley, a free agent acquisition last offseason, and Brown, who Philadelphia acquired via trade during the 2022 NFL Draft.

Turns out, Philadelphia's trade for Brown was minutes away from falling through on draft night.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman revealed on an episode of the "Bussin' With The Boys" podcast that he was down to the wire on getting a deal done for the wide receiver during the draft.

Roseman and Jon Robinson, the Tennessee Titans' general manager at the time, had a deal in place the morning of the draft for the Eagles to acquire Brown. The only issue was finalizing a new contract for the wide receiver.

"We had to get a contract done with him," Roseman explained. "I said, 'Jon, if we can't get a contract done, we can't do this trade. We can't trade you a [first-round pick] and a [third-round pick] for one year of a player. We got to get a contract done first.'"

— Bussin' With The Boys (@BussinWTB) August 14, 2025

Philadelphia held the No. 12 and No. 18 overall picks in the first round of that draft and were planning to send No. 18 to Tennessee for Brown. At No. 12, they picked Jordan Davis but still didn't have a contract in place for the wide receiver, causing Robinson to pressure Roseman about what was happening.

"Jon's like, 'what are we doing? What's going on here?'" Roseman said. "Between [picks] 12 and 18, I'm trying to finish the contract."

This deal was kept secret from many Eagles' front office members even as the first round of the draft went on.

"Nobody knew except a couple of people that we were even doing it because I said, 'imagine if this falls apart,'" Roseman said. "Like, I'm going to be the GM who can't get a deal done with AJ. ... When we finished it, it was about pick 14."

Roseman decided to break the news to the rest of the draft war room.

"I'm just going to say, 'hey guys, we're picking AJ Brown," he said. "And they're all going to look at me like, 'what the (expletive) is going on?' But they're going to be excited as (expletive). And so it was really fun, it was really great energy."

Brown was a second-team All-Pro in his first year with Philadelphia as the Eagles made a run to Super Bowl 57. He was a second-team All-Pro in 2023 and 2024 as well and had five catches for 43 yards and a touchdown in Super Bowl 59.

AJ Brown trade details

Philadelphia ended up trading the No. 18 and No. 101 overall picks to Tennessee for Brown. The Eagles immediately signed him to a four-year, $100 million contract.

Tennessee selected wide receiver Treylon Burks at No. 18 overall and packaged the No. 101 pick in a deal to send the New York Jets the No. 26 overall pick. Here's who they selected with the picks they received from New York:

Round 2, No. 35 overall: CB Roger McCreary

Round 3, No. 69: OT Nicholas Petit-Frere

Round 5, No. 163: WR Kyle Philips

McCreary and Burks are the only players still on the Titans' roster ahead of the 2025 season.

Robinson was fired during the 2022 NFL season. Then-Titans coach Mike Vrabel disagreed on this trade as well as a later trade for wide receiver Julio Jones, leading to his firing.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Sonia Citron scored 21 points, Kiki Iriafen had 18 points and 12 rebounds, and the Washington Mystics beat the Indiana Fever 88-84 on Friday night.

Citron gave Washinton an 80-71 lead with 3:39 remaining with her third 3-pointer. But the Mystics did not make another field goal until Sug Sutton's basket with 59.8 seconds left for an 85-80 advantage.

Trailing 85-82 with 22.6 seconds left, Indiana guard Kelsey Mitchell got into the lane for a layup that came up short. Washington guard Jade Melbourne was fouled and went hit a free throw for a four-point lead.

Aliyah Boston made a quick layup at the other end to get Indiana within two with 5.9 seconds left. But Melbourne was fouled again and made both free throws to seal it.

Sutton finished with 13 points for Washington (15-18) and Alysha Clark added 11 in her fourth game with the team. Iriafen made her first 3-pointer of the season.

Caitlin Clark (right groin) missed her 21st game of the season for Indiana (18-16).

Boston had 20 points and nine rebounds for the Fever. Mitchell added 14 points and nine assists. Natasha Howard and Odyssey Sims each scored 11, and Damiris Dantas added 10 points.

Dantas hit a 3-pointer to beat the third-quarter buzzer and cap an 8-0 run for a 64-62 Indiana lead.

Baltimore Orioles rookie Brandon Young lost a perfect game in the eighth inning Friday, to a player he shared a clubhouse with a month ago.

On his 24th batter of the game against the Houston Astros, Young allowed an infield hit to infielder Ramón Urías, whom the Orioles traded to Houston at the deadline. Urías hit a soft grounder to Young's right, just far away enough that he had to make a rushed and off-balance throw that veered wide of first base, allowing the batter to reach second.

The play was ruled a single for Urías plus a throwing error by Young, who was making the 11th start of his career.

[Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season]

Young had previously been cruising against the Astros, sitting at 87 pitches before Urías derailed his bid. The 26-year-old from Lumberton, Texas — about 100 miles from Houston — recovered by striking out Taylor Trammell to finish his night with eight scoreless innings in a 7-0 Baltimore win.

The Urías trade was one of several the Orioles made as trade deadline sellers, with Houston picking him up to fill a void in its infield at the cost of pitching prospect Twine Palmer.

Had Young finished the job, he would have become the third rookie in MLB history to throw a perfect game and the first since 1922. No Oriole has ever thrown a perfect game, of which there are only 24 in MLB history.

Young actually pulled off a different rare feat earlier this season, throwing an immaculate inning (three strikeouts on nine pitches) in his fifth career start. Only four pitchers —Jim Bunning, Sandy Koufax, David Cone and Randy Johnson — have thrown both a perfect game and immaculate inning in their careers, with none of them doing both in the same season.

After two seasons in college at Louisiana Lafayette, Young joined the Orioles as an undrafted free agent following the truncated 2020 MLB Draft and slowly worked his way up through the minor leagues. He made his MLB debut on April 19 and took his first long-term role in the Baltimore rotation in early July.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Noah Cameron pitched into the sixth inning, Salvador Perez hit a go-ahead homer, and the Kansas City Royals beat the Chicago White Sox 3-1 on Friday night to continue their mastery of their AL Central rivals over the past couple of years.

The Royals are 18-3 against the White Sox since the start of last season, including a four-game sweep of Chicago n May.

Cameron (7-5) set the Royals rookie record at Kauffman Stadium by running his scoreless streak to 19 1/3 innings early on. And when Lenyn Sosa homered off him with two outs in the fourth, Cameron set down the next four batters.

Cameron loaded the bases with one out in the fifth, but John Schreiber came in and got Sosa to line into an inning-ending double play.

Carlos Estévez struck out the side in the ninth, finishing 3 2/3 scoreless innings by the Royals bullpen and earning his 31st save.

Aaron Civale (3-8) gave up three straight singles in the first as Kansas City took a 1-0 lead. He allowed one more hit until the fourth, when Perez sent a 1-0 pitch over the right-field wall to make it 2-1.

KC's Adam Frazier hit a two-out RBI double in the sixth.

Key moment

Royals manager Matt Quatraro was ejected by second base umpire Tom Hanahan in the fifth after Kyle Isbel was thrown out trying to steal second. Quatraro was angry that the White Sox were not called for blocking the bag. It took crew chief Todd Tichenor to get the skipper back to the dugout.

Key stat

The White Sox have lost nine of their last 11.

Up next

RHP Sean Burke (4-9, 4.26 ERA) starts Saturday night for Chicago. RHP Michael Lorenzen (5-8, 4.61) makes his first start for Kansas City since July 6, when he pitched well before landing on the injured list with a left oblique strain.
