PHILADELPHIA – Do not ask Sam Williams any more Micah Parsons questions.

The Dallas Cowboys' edge rusher entertained the final question of his postgame media scrum following his team's 24-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the first game of the 2025 NFL season at his locker by saying, "I feel like everybody's really tired of that question."

"Micah's gone, so I feel like we should stop bringing up his name. He's on (the Green Bay Packers). I feel like you should ask about the Cowboys, worry about what we got in the locker room. Micah's always going to be part of the family."

But for any questions about his departure from the Cowboys to the Packers via a trade last Thursday, Williams referred the inquiries to Parsons' agent David Mulugheta or Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones.

"I could give you his number and you can call him and ask Micah any questions you need," said Williams, tasked with replacing Parsons' sack production as one of the team's top pass rushers. "But me, please don't ask me no questions about that man. That's him, and I'm me."

The boss man himself echoed a similar refrain. Jones started to answer a question about Parsons' absence before taking a tangent and shouting out Williams, who had a "really significant impact on (the Eagles' offensive) line," in his evaluation.

"Anytime you have a great player and don't have him out there on the field – but I specifically was watching all the guys that were taking up the slack or might have been in his (spot)," Jones replied.

"I'm pretty proud of this team," he added.

Parsons had a dramatic 2025 with the Cowboys, from a failed springtime negotiation to a training camp "hold in" that featured trade demands, training table naps and unnecessary shots from both management and player.

It ended with the two-time All-Pro being traded to the Packers, who signed him to a four-year deal worth $188 million ($136 million guaranteed).

To quarterback Dak Prescott, Parsons and his absence wasn't on anyone's mind. The other side of the ball are professionals, he said, and they did their job by holding the Eagles to three points in the second half.

"I don't think it was like 'We're going to miss this' or miss that," Prescott said of Parsons. "He's a hell of a pass rusher and probably would've made plays, but we're not going to live in that, and I don't care to be honest. We wish him the best and truly wish him the best."

According to NextGen Stats, the Cowboys defense played zone coverage on all 17 pass plays in the first half and blitzed Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts zero times. That generated just three pressures and no sacks. Hurts has an average time to throw of 2.93 seconds, and he scrambled six times for 48 yards in the first 30 minutes.

That changed in the second half, when the Cowboys blitzed on two of the first five Eagles' pass plays. Both blitzes generated a pressure and led to Dallas' lone sack of the game from Marshawn Kneeland.

"I don't think necessarily a beat was missed and I really give credit to (the defense)," Prescott said. "I mean, unfortunately though, I won't say the holdout, but the hold-in during training camp, he wasn't necessarily taking the reps with the team. So I don't think that was something that they had to figure out. It was just go out there and let's build off of what we've been doing since training camp."

Still, Jones' main reason for dealing Parsons was stopping the run. But the Eagles rushed 19 times for 123 yards (6.5 yards per carry) in the first half with all three touchdowns – a pair of Hurts scrambles included – coming on the ground. All three ballcarriers recorded a run of 15 yards or more.

"Honestly, I feel like we did a really solid job," defensive lineman Osa Odighizuwa said, "other than the QB scrambles."

Maybe Mr. Parsons could have helped in that regard.

Clippers owner Steve Ballmer granted his first interview Thursday night to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne since the team was accused in a report of circumventing NBA salary cap rules via an alleged $28 million no-show marketing deal between All-Star Kawhi Leonard and a third-party company that Ballmer had invested in.

Ballmer claimed he had no knowledge of the deal between Leonard and Alliance — a now-bankrupt digital bank and tree-planting startup whose co-founder pleaded guilty to fraud — that journalist Pablo Torre reported Wednesday on his podcast "Pablo Finds Out."

Per Torre, who cited legal documents, Alliance paid Leonard $21 million and owes him $7 million more through Leonard's company KL2 Aspire, LLC. Per Torre's report, Leonard was required to essentially do nothing in exchange for the money, and the contract included a clause that required Leonard to remain with the Clippers.

Ballmer invested $50 million in Alliance at its founding stage in 2021. An anonymous former Alliance employee spoke on Torre's podcast through a voice disguiser and said that they were told by a superior that the deal between Alliance and Leonard was made to "circumvent the salary cap." The NBA is investigating the allegations.

In a previous statement from the Clippers, Ballmer denied the allegations. Shelburne asked Ballmer on Thursday how to explain that the allegations in Torre's report are false. Ballmer told Shelburne that any deal between Leonard and Aspiration was made independent of him and the Clippers, who'd signed Leonard to a three-year, $103.1 million contract in 2019.

"We made an investment in the company," Ballmer said. "I had no control over this company. At the time, it was an exciting deal for us to go do. We had already signed our deal with Kawhi Leonard. ...

"At that time, we hadn't even introduced ... Kawhi to Aspiration. ... Then they request to be introduced to Kawhi. Under rules, we can introduce our sponsors to our athletes. We just can't be involved."

Ballmer insisted that there was no salary cap circumvention.

"Where could any of this circumvention have happened?" he continued. "It didn't. It couldn't have.

"The introduction got made. And they they were off to the races on their own. We weren't involved. I eventually learned that they reached a deal. I have no idea what the deal was."

Shelburne reminded Ballmer that, per Torre and reported court documents, the deal between Aspiration and Leonard was for $28 million. Ballmer then claimed ignorance when asked about why Aspiration would have signed Leonard to such a lucrative contract.

'They conned me'

"The speculation is what it is," Ballmer continued. "Why did they do that? I don't know why they did what they did. And I don't know how different it is. And frankly, any speculation would be crazy.

"These are guys who committed fraud. Look, they conned me. I made an investment in these guys thinking it was on the up and up. And they conned me. At this stage, I have no ability to predict why they might have done anything they did."

Shelburne then asked Ballmer about a past NBA investigation from 2019 into allegations that Leonard's uncle and adviser Dennis Robertson — aka Uncle Dennis — asked for extra impermissible benefits during Leonard's contract negotiations with the Clippers.

The NBA cleared the Clippers of wrongdoing in that investigation, but left the door open to reopen the probe if any new information came to light. Shelburne asked specifically if Leonard and his team had asked for additional impermissible benefit since then.

"They know the rules," Ballmer said of Leonard, Robertson and Leonard's representatives. "We know the rules. And if anything's not clear, we remind ourselves what the rules are.

"And we make absolutely clear we're gonna abide by those rules and they understand them as well. It's important for them to abide by them, which they have."

Ballmer said that he hasn't spoken with Leonard since news of his reported contract with Alliance broke Wednesday.

Ballmer told Shelburne that he'd want the NBA to investigate if another team faced the same allegations.

"I'd want the league to investigate, take it seriously," Ballmer said "Salary cap circumvention rules are important to the league, and I'd want the league to investigate."

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — A band of leg-sore Australian friends are claiming a new world record for the longest nonstop game of beach touch rugby, accumulating around 1,500 points during a grueling 34 hours of play, one of the players said Friday.

Neither side knows who won. Organizers of the Tama Touch Group, which played the game on Wednesday and Thursday as a charity event at Sydney's iconic Bondi Beach, decided against providing a running score for fear of overexciting the fatigued players' competitive instincts, competitor Harry Preston said.

"It's not about who beats who. It's about collectively breaking the record and doing it for a good cause," Preston said. "It does get a bit competitive, but it's all about the mateship and the camaraderie."

Guinness Word Records has yet to confirm the group has broken the record set by the Sandbaggers Beach Touch Rugby Team in Britain in August 2022. But Guinness confirmed in a statement Thursday that its records team was assessing the bid.

The name "Tama" comes from the smaller Tamarama Beach, south of Bondi, where they formed their social group to play in 2001. Better known as Tama Touch, the group's 22 men began their six-a-side game at 6 a.m. Wednesday and declared themselves world record holders Thursday afternoon.

Beating the clock and aiding mental health

The Sandbaggers record set on the coast of southern England was 34 hours and 6 seconds. Their match raised donations for motor neurone disease charities. Tama Touch claimed a numerically significant record of 34 hours, 9 minutes and 25 seconds. The numerals represent the date of the two-day match, Sept. 3 and 4, 2025.

Video of the entire game will submitted to Guinness, as well a log of every point scored and substitution made. Witness statements also will be included as evidence of a record.

"Some wanted to go on," Preston said. "Our theory is that we didn't want to break it by a huge margin because we want other people to break it and we want other people to raise money and awareness for causes and that's ultimately what it's all about."

Tama Touch's match raised more than 167,000 Australian dollars ($109,000) for Beyond Blue, an Australian mental health organization providing free support to help manage anxiety, depression and suicide prevention.

Player Andrew Lord said regular social matches with Tama Touch on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays helped his own mental health.

"I've had my own experiences with mental health and this group helped me through. Now we want to help others find that same support," Lord said in a statement.

Playing through the pain

Preston said the whole group of 22 stayed to the end despite players suffering a dislocated toe, a suspected broken toe and a broken thumb. The injuries happened late in the game.

There was no limit to how many substitutions could be made, but there always had to be 12 players in the game and 10 on the bench. One player said a smart watch told him he had run 70 kilometers (43 miles) during the match.

"There's a lot of pressure on the ankles and the Achilles (tendons) and the calves because sand is a little bit more trying than hard surfaces," Preston said.

The early spring temperature fell to 8 degrees Celsius (46 degrees Fahrenheit) overnight. The daytime temperatures rose to mild maximums of 13 Celsius (55 Fahrenheit) Wednesday and 16 Celsius (61 Fahrenheit) Thursday.

In touch rugby, a player scores a point by placing the ball on or over what is called a try line. Preston said around 1,500 points were scored, but there was a more precise tally kept. Whether the Breakers in the blue shirts or the Sand Stormers in red shirts won the game will be announced at a dinner next week.

Thursday's NFL season opener, which saw the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles defeat the Dallas Cowboys 24-20, also gave fans a little bit of everything, including touchdowns, scuffles, a weather delay and a spitting scandal.

After the opening kickoff, Eagles defensive lineman Jalen Carter was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct. The 24-year-old appeared to spit at Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and was ejected before the offense took a snap.

As boos rained down from the Philly crowd, the former first round pick out of Georgia walked off the field, holding his helmet without a single drop of sweat on his face.

"One of the officials observed him spitting on an opponent," referee Shawn Smith told a pool reporter. "It's a disqualifiable foul in the game. It's a non-football act."

However, NBC cameras later showed Prescott spitting in the direction of Carter before the All-Pro got into the quarterback's face.

After the game, Carter told reporters that he made a "mistake."

"I feel bad for just my teammates and fans out here," Carter said. "I'm doing it for them. Doing it for my family also but fans, they show the most love. … It won't happen again. I've already made that promise."

Prescott, however, downplayed the spitting incident, claiming he was trying to "mess" with one of his offensive lineman and felt the "need" to spit, which riled Carter up.

"I'm sure he probably regrets that to a certain extent," Prescott said. "Pretty sure he knows that I didn't try to spit on him or wasn't even aiming at him. Something thats probably going to get a lot of coverage and attention that I'm sorry for. … Unfortunate circumstances."

A tale of two halves

The first half was all offense while the second was all defense.

Both teams combined to score 41 points in the first two quarters with just a measly three combined points in the last two.

All the talk of late has been about who the Cowboys' owner and general manager, Jerry Jones, has traded away, but not who the team has signed.

Running back Javonte Williams, a former second round pick of the Denver Broncos, signed in the Lone Star State this past offseason and quickly provided a spark for Dallas.

The 25-year-old barreled his way in for two 1-yard touchdowns to give the Cowboys much needed points against the high-powered Eagles offense.

However, it was star quarterback Jalen Hurts that kept the game from getting out of reach.

The reigning Super Bowl MVP finished the game throwing for 152 yards, 62 yards on the ground and two touchdowns to lead the Eagles.

As the clock slowly ticked and Cowboys down four points, needing a touchdown for the win, it was all on Prescott.

Despite throwing his best balls, Cowboys receivers weren't able to reel them in, including a ball going right through CeeDee Lamb's hands. The drop led to the Eagles getting the ball back and running down the clock to secure a tough first victory in their title defense.

"It means everything to come out and start strong," Hurts told the NBC broadcast.

"It's a new team, it's a new journey, and we got tested tonight. They played a hell of a game. We know how they are when Dak (Prescott) is back and they got their crew all together, so a lot of respect for that team on the other side.

"So we just gotta clean up some things and play better football, but it's always good to say that and find a way to win."

Last year's offensive player of the year Saquon Barkley finished with 60 yards rushing, which garnered a chuckle out of him when learning he was beat out by Hurts.

"I love it. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is winning football games, and what do we say? By land, by air, it don't matter, and (Hurts) did everything we needed for him to do today," Barkley said.

Hurts described he and his running back as "Yin and Yang."

"A complimentary force," Hurts explained.

"Approach things in a very similar way, same mentality, but may express it differently. And so I think it's as complimentary as it gets. He's a hell of a player and he's had all the success he's had for a reason."

Mother nature had other plans

The weather in Philadelphia looked threatening ahead of kickoff and finally made itself known with the Eagles leading the Cowboys by four with just under five minutes remaining in the third quarter.

The game was suspended around 10:25 p.m. ET due to lightning in the area and the delay lasted over an hour.

The break in the action provided an interesting dilemma for Dallas cornerback Trevon Diggs. The broadcast showed the 26-year-old All-Pro looking for food during the delay.

The Dallas defense showed up after the delay, holding the Eagles scoreless after play resumed, but it wasn't enough to secure a win as the Cowboys offense could not break through against Philly.

While the Eagles are certainly enjoying the win, a tough test awaits them next week – Super Bowl LIX rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Cowboys will face another division rival, the New York Giants, at home.

You know about the drops. Maybe you saw them. Maybe you only heard about them. They will be talked about and talked about and then talked about some more. You know about those. But did you know what Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb actually said about them?

That is the most crucial part of the Lamb drops story. Philadelphia beat Dallas, 24-20, to open the season with a crucial win. For Dallas, all that will be talked about for the next few days (and beyond) are the drops. Lamb had three (a fourth was a tough catch) and according to ESPN he has 35 total drops since entering the NFL in 2020, most in the league. The network also said it's his second career game with three drops.

"The guys that had a chance to make those plays, will make those plays," said Cowboys owner Jerry Jones after the game.

"Don't worry about CeeDee Lamb," said Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer. "CeeDee's going to be fine. What a great player. Again, this was a team defeat and we own that. We understand where we can go as a football team. We understand. I love the competition. I thought guys competed their butts off. I thought that was great, but we're all about winning and we didn't win tonight and therefore it's not good enough."

Then came the quote from Lamb. "That's terrible. I can't point the finger at anybody else. I take full accountability and everything else that comes with it," Lamb said, via The Athletic's Jon Machota. "As a player, I train for moments like that and the ball to come my way. I need to catch the damn ball."

Lamb added that if you didn't think he'll come back from this moment, you're wrong.

Lamb had 7 catches for 110 yards.

And he's right. We'll see Lamb be Lamb again.

A sorely missed former cast member of Chicago Med has found a new home on the latest spinoff series from another fan-favorite franchise.

Nick Gehlfuss, who was an original cast member of the hospital-based drama—playing the character of Dr. Will Halstead—has officially signed on to star in FBI's sister show CIA (another branch of the Dick Wolf Cinematic Universe), coming to CBS as a midseason pickup early next year.

According to Variety, the actor and Michael Michele have both been cast to star alongside series lead Tom Ellis, who was previously announced and is said to portray an experienced CIA field officer. Gehlfuss is set to star as his FBI counterpart, with the intent of the series to explore the relationship between the two agencies.

Michele has been cast as a supervisor within the CIA.

According to the publication, the official logline says the show is "centered on two unlikely partners – a fast-talking, rule-breaking loose cannon CIA case officer (Ellis), and a by-the-book, seasoned and smart FBI agent (Gehlfuss) who believes in the rule of law. When this odd couple are assigned to work out of CIA's New York Station, they must learn to work together to investigate cases and criminals posing threats on U.S. soil, finding that their differences may actually be their strength."

Gehlfuss has a busy schedule ahead of him between his new lead role and a brief stint back at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, where he hasn't been seen in two years. The actor has been slotted in for a guest-starring role this season, though details about his return are still under wraps. Fans, however, are likely crossing their fingers for an appearance from Torrey DeVitto, too—or at least an update as to how life in Seattle with Natalie and her son Owen is.

Her departure follows John Earl Jelks (Dr. Dennis Washington), who was written out as part of a budget-cut storyline, and Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut (Dr. Naomi Howard), who chose to resign in search of a fresh start following her involvement in an interhospital #MeToo moment, and leaves just two original cast members standing: Oliver Platt as Dr. Daniel Charles, chief of the psychiatry department, and S. Epatha Merkerson as Sharon Goodwin, the hospital's chief administrator.

TOKYO (Reuters) -Japan has confirmed its commitment to an annual $7 billion worth of energy purchases from the United States while exploring their new Alaskan liquefied natural gas (LNG) off-take agreement, a joint statement on the bilateral trade deal showed on Friday.

The U.S. will also ensure it applies its lowest tariff rates to Japanese pharmaceuticals and semiconductors, showed the statement, released by Tokyo after President Donald Trump signed an order to lower tariffs on Japanese goods to implement a deal announced in July.
