*Grey's Anatomy* has delivered drama, comedy, romance, and so, so many surgeries throughout its milestone 450 episodes. So, to honor the show that gave us "seriously," "pick me, choose me, love me," the bomb episode, McDreamy, McSteamy, and even McVet, we've asked some members of the cast and creative team to annotate script pages from their favorite episodes.

See what episodes stand out to them and why below.**

Shonda Rhimes (Creator): Season 1, Episode 1, "Pilot"

It's only fitting that series creator Shonda Rhimes picks the pilot that started it all. Below, Rhimes, who wrote the episode, gives some insider details about everything from the birth of 007 to what it was really like to film in those hospital tunnels and her "favorite scene" in the episode. Additionally, she shares a scene that she wrote between Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Cristina (Sandra Oh), which was ultimately cut.

As she writes, "Such a great speech by Bailey but in the editing room, it was clear Cristina did not need to hear it to move forward."

Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey): Season 6, Episode 24, "Death And All His Friends"

Wilson, best known for playing the unstoppable force that is Dr. Bailey on the show, chose an episode that no *Grey's* fan will ever forget: The shooting. Here, Wilson shares some of her internal thoughts as she embarked on a particularly emotional scene when Bailey realizes that the elevators aren't working and has to hold — or as she so devastatingly puts it, "cradle" — Charles (Robert Baker) as he dies.

Zoanne Clack (Writer): Season 17, Episode 5, "Fight the Power"

Clack, who penned the script for the 450th episode, chose an hour from the COVID season that hit close to home for the writer. The episode, which features Bailey's mother getting COVID, was inspired by Clark's own mother, she writes. But the real-life inspiration didn't end there. As Bailey and Richard (James Pickens Jr.) honored fictional victims, Clark writes, "Names were changed but each name is a tribute to real-life Covid victims. We asked crew members to submit names of loved ones and others were people I personally knew."

Kevin McKidd (Owen Hunt): Season 19, Episode 12, "Pick Yourself Up"

Kevin McKidd, a.k.a. Owen Hunt, is also a director on the show. Not only did he direct the 450th episode, but for this piece, he also chose to discuss a season 19 episode that he directed. The hour, titled "Pick Yourself Up," featured a first act that was all one continuous shot and therefore required quite a bit of planning, which you can see in his annotated script pages as he outlines the different camera movements and character placement within each scene.

Additionally, McKidd passed along an email that he sent to the cast during the holiday break, in which he explains his idea for the episode. Read his email below:

*I hope you are all having the most relaxing and rejuvenating holiday so far! I am sat in the lounge in Dublin on my way to Scotland for New Year and then headed to Iceland to go ice caving and to search for the Northern Lights (and to drink some Icelandic mead!)***

*I know we are not in a work mode right now but I wanted to put this super rough video of the Act 1 oner which we will shoot the second week we get back to work. I asked your stand ins to give me the rough outline and Byron and I spliced together these IPhone STEDI cam shots into what will be our ONER . Our hope is to shoot this sequence as ONE CONTINUOUS SHOT with no hiccups or cuts. It should, if all goes as planned, be the first time we have done almost an entire act as one shot in the history of our show !!!!***

*As you can tell I'm excited ;)***

*Please check it out and let it soak into your subconscious. We plan to do an extended 4 hour long rehearsal the day before we shoot. Then on the day, we will do a final dress rehearsal and when we all feel good - start rolling. I am anticipating we should have it by TAKE 3 . Krista will be there on the day of filming to sign off on the shot and help select possible little coverage pick ups or 'pops' as Debbie would call them for insurance in the edit . But the attempt is to make this shot work with no coverage or cuts.***

*I humbly ask for us all to be as OFF BOOK as we can possibly be for this, it is a medically quite complex sequence so the more we are all secure on our words, the smoother it will be***

*Reach with any comments or concerns!***

*Enjoy and Happy New Year***

Meg Marinis (Showrunner): Season 13, Episode 18, "Be Still, My Soul"

Meg Marinis, the current showrunner for the medical drama, chose to look back at the first episode she wrote for the series, which was directed by series star Ellen Pompeo. As she writes, "This episode centered on mainly one storyline, which is rare for *Grey's* — the story of Maggie Pierce accepting her mom is dying." Marinis reveals that she, herself, is also one of three sisters, and explores how that sister dynamic influenced the episode.

Debbie Allen (Catherine Fox): Season 21, Episode 1, "If Walls Could Talk"

Debbie Allen is known in front of the camera as Catherine Fox, but she's also one of the series' directors, and when asked to choose a favorite episode, she chose the season 21 premiere, which she directed and which featured, as she writes, "the slap that went around the world."

As Allen writes, the slap is one of her favorite scenes. "Our showrunner didn't want me to get slapped," she reveals in her notes. "I convinced her that an inspirational speech wasn't it. Catherine deserved to be slapped." Allen also writes that Wilson didn't want to slap her, but as she puts it, "it went viral on social media."**
