A pair of heavy rainmakers aren't expected to develop in the Gulf and near Florida, but tropical development is increasingly likely in the ever-active Central Atlantic in the upcoming week.
This comes following the recent pair of hurricanes, Humberto and Imelda.
The National Hurricane Center is monitoring areas in the eastern Atlantic, near the Gulf Coast and also near the Sunshine State, as shown in the map below.
Here's what you about each.

Possible NHC DevelopmentFlorida, Gulf
- A weak low pressure system has formed near the northwestern Bahamas.
- As the map above shows, this weak low could then drift northwestward towards Florida.
-No further development for this area is expected. For now, the main concern is the threat of locally flooding rainfall over the next several days in parts of eastern Florida, as the map below shows.
- Flood watches are in place across Florida's east coast through Sunday morning, where rainfall totals over 2 inches are possible.
- A second area of low pressure has formed near the Gulf Coast. The Gulf is currently dominated by both strong wind shear and dry air. Those two factors working against tropical development may lessen over the next few days. Reguardless, this system will bring heavier rain to southeastern Louisiana and coastal parts of Mississippi and Alabama.

Rainfall ForecastEastern Atlantic
- The one area that could develop into a bigger concern is between the Lesser Antilles and Africa.
- A disturbance known as a tropical wave is moving westward off the African coast into the eastern Atlantic Ocean.
- A tropical depression could form near or east of the Lesser Antilles by the end of next week.
- It's far too soon to determine its future beyond that. Most long-range computer models suggest another northward curl of this system is possible, assuming it develops at all. But where and when that northward curl will happen will be important.
