Rebecca Romijn says one of her daughters plans to follow in her famous parents' footsteps with a career in Hollywood.

Romijn, who is married to fellow actor Jerry O'Connell, caught up with PEOPLE exclusively at the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 finale screening in Culver City, Calif., on Sept. 8. During the conversation, the former model revealed that one of their twin daughters, Dolly, 16, hopes to act and eventually direct some day — and the teen even came to the Star Trek set to shadow for a day.

"Dolly is the one who [...] really wants to be a director someday," Romijn, 52, says. "Actor first, but she came and visited during our — now I can't remember the name of it — but the documentary episode. She was there that entire episode, and [director] Sharon Lewis, when she heard that Dolly wants to be a director, asked if Dolly would stand next to her the whole time."

"So Dolly got to yell 'action' and 'cut' a number of times. There was one moment that was very surreal. It was on my close-up where Dolly said, 'That's great, Rebecca, moving on,' over the PA system," she continues.

"I was like, 'How dare you call me that? I'm your mother!' " she jokes, adding, "It was really surreal. It was so fun having her there. Very, very, very fun. She's the one who really wants to be [there]. She understands the feeling of set magic."

Romijn shared that Dolly takes after both her and her husband, O'Connell, 51, in their love for being on set.

"Those of us who do this, Jerry and I, are this way. We walk onto a set, and it just feels like magic to us, and she is that way," Romijn tells PEOPLE.

She continues, "Her sister [Charlie] is opposite. Her sister's like, 'When do you wrap and where's crafty? Where can I pick up a brownie? And I'll be in your trailer playing games.' "

"I'm not mad," Rebecca went on to say about having twin daughters with such different passions. "I love having both, actually."

When not on film and movie sets, the X-Men star says that she and the family spend their time enjoying the everyday parts of life.

"They both actually play varsity volleyball at their high school, and now that they've both become very, very good at it, I love watching. And I never thought I would love watching volleyball," she says.

"Jerry drives them a little crazy. He's extremely vocal, and we have been banned [by the girls]," she jokingly adds.

"I get lumped in because I laugh a lot, and so they're like, 'You do nothing, Mom. You don't ever try and stop him.' I'm like, 'You think I have any control over the things that come out of his mouth?' But it's a lot, and I think it's just his outlet. It's never negative. It's always very positive," Romijn says.
