Cleveland Guardians center fielder Angel Martinez swatted enough of a Tarik Skubal pitch in Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series to inflict some damage, just not the kind that led to runs scored.
Martinez fouled off a Skubal pitch in the bottom of the fourth inning that struck a camera behind the plate shattering it. The foul ball forced a brief delay — approximately five minutes — as the grounds crew cleaned up the shattered glass.

Martinez ultimately got on base on a soft single to the middle of the infield to give the Guardians a baserunner.
The camera positioned behind home plate is broken by a foul ball in the fourth inning during game one of the American League Wild Card Series between the Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field on September 30, 2025 in Cleveland, Ohio.
That at-bat proved pivotal, as Martinez eventually crossed home plate to tie the Game at 1 with two outs in the inning. Martinez was initially ruled out on the play at the plate, but the Guardians won their challenge, overturning the call to safe.
