After two years of a public romance, Tim Burton and Monica Bellucci are calling it quits. The couple confirmed their breakup in a joint statement to Agence France-Presse on Friday.

"It is with much respect and deep care for each other that Monica Bellucci and Tim Burton have decided to part ways," they said in the statement.**

The acclaimed *Beetlejuice* director and the *Spectre* actress confirmed their romance with their red carpet debut at the premiere of *Diabolik Chi Sei?* at the 18th Rome Film Festival in October 2023.

Before their public appearance, Bellucci shared a rare glimpse into the pair's relationship during an interview with *Elle France* in June 2023. The actress, who had just been cast in *Beetlejuice Beetlejuice*, the 2024 sequel to Burton's cult hit, discussed how she felt about working with her beau.

"What I can say... I'm very happy to have met the man, first of all," Bellucci told the outlet at the time. "It's one of those encounters that rarely happen in a lifetime... I know the man, I love him. Now I'm going to meet the director, it's another adventure that begins."

Bellucci, who played Beetlejuice's vengeful bride Dolores in the film, added, "I love Tim. And I respect Tim Burton enormously. I like this dreamlike world where monsters are kind, as if we could transform our darkest aspects into something bright, forgive. Tim Burton's films talk a lot about that."

The couple was staunch about their desire to keep their relationship private and their romance separate from their professional lives.

"I'm with Tim. Not Tim Burton, the director, but Tim, a person I love," Bellucci told *Paris Match* in May 2024.

Bellucci was previously married to actor Vincent Cassel, with whom she shares daughters Deva Cassel, 21, and Léonie Cassel, 15. The couple split in 2013 after 14 years of marriage.

Burton and longtime love Helena Bonham Carter were together from 2001 to 2014. The couple met on the set of *Planet of the Apes* (2001) and went on to collaborate on eight films, including* Big Fish* (2003), *Corpse Bride* (2005), *Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street* (2007) and *Alice in Wonderland *(2010).**

While they never got married, Burton and Bonham Carter welcomed two kids together: Billy Raymond Burton, 21, and Nell Burton, 17.

Though they worked together on many projects, and Bohnam Carter has called her former partner "a hilarious man" with whom she "had a lot of laughs," the *Harry Potter* star has also admitted that their working relationship wasn't always pretty.

"There were times when working together was not harmonious," she said in a 2020 interview on *Grounded with Louis Theroux*, noting that filming *Sweeney Todd* was the only time the two were "argumentative as a couple."

After 13 years together, the couple announced in 2014 that they had "separated amicably earlier this year" and planned to "be friends and co-parent their children."**
