The Miami Heat will be without their key scorer to start the season, according to a report.
Guard Tyler Herro, a first-time All-Star last season, will have surgery on his left foot Friday, Sept. 19 to treat an ankle injury suffered during an offseason workout, ESPN reported.
There was no immediate timetable for his return to play, though ESPN reported that Herro would miss the beginning of the 2025-26 NBA season, which officially tips off on Oct. 21.
Miami's first game of the season is the following night, Oct. 22 against the Orlando Magic.

The Miami Herald added more context to Herro's injury. According to the outlet, the issue is a foot and ankle impingement, which is when soft tissue becomes pinched around a joint.
Per Stanford Health Care, the condition can be rather painful and can be caused by repeated strain and overuse.
Herro, 25, wanted to avoid surgery, per the Herald, and received platelet-rich plasma injections as well as cortisone injections, though the discomfort never subsided.
How long will Tyler Herro be out?
It is unclear, though the Herald reported that Herro is expected to return at some point this season. The Herald also reported that a clearer timetable was expected after Friday's procedure.

Herro was Miami's primary scorer and top threat at the end of games. A three-level offensive threat, Herro shot a career-high 47.2% from the field and focused on increasing his efficiency last season. He was also Miami's top threat from deep, tied for 11th in the NBA with 3.3 made 3-pointers per game.
This means more will be asked of offseason addition Norman Powell, whom the Heat acquired in a three-team July trade with the Clippers and Jazz.
Powell, who is entering his 11th season in the NBA, averaged a career-high 21.8 points per game last season in Los Angeles, which dealt with several injuries throughout the season.
Other players like forwards Bam Adebayo, Andrew Wiggins and Nikola Jović will need to produce more offense.
