Owen Cooper got starstruck before he even made it to the Emmys red carpet.

The 15-year-old *Adolescence* star has made it very clear that his No. 1 goal for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards isn't winning — it's getting the chance to meet one of his heroes, Jake Gyllenhaal. So a day before the ceremony, Jake crashed an interview to make that dream come true.

In a sweet video that sees the two Emmy nominees finally meet, Cooper is shooting a seemingly innocuous promo clip, with no idea that the *Presumed Innocent* star is on his way into the studio. Asked who he's most excited to meet at the Emmys, Cooper replies, "I think everyone knows that Jake Gyllenhaal's my top number one."

Cut to Gyllenhaal, walking down the hall while shaking off nerves with a smile.

"Now I'm nervous," Gyllenhaal says of meeting Cooper. "Now I feel nervous. I'm excited!"

As the older actor quietly sneaks into the room, someone behind the camera asks Cooper, "If you meet Jake, what would you say?"

"I don't know," he replies. "I'll just stare at him, I don't really know. I've got no words —"

Hearing someone enter the room, Cooper glances back and does a double-take as Gyllenhaal walks in. "Oh my god," he mutters as Gyllenhaal walks over, greeting him with a pat on the shoulder and a hug.

As if it's not already a dream come true for the young TV star, the sweet interaction then sees Gyllenhaal present Cooper with a present and some good vibes ahead of the Emmys ceremony.

"I made this movie, and I got nominated for an Academy Award, and a friend of mine sent me something just like this," Gyllenhaal said, referencing his sole Oscar nod for *Brokeback Mountain*. "It's just a lucky duck to keep in your pocket to give you a little bit of luck."

The good luck token comes after Cooper made history as the youngest-ever nominee for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Anthology Series or Movie, for his breakout performance in *Adolescence*. Meanwhile, Gyllenhaal is up for his first-ever Emmy: Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Anthology Series or Movie for his role in *Presumed Innocent*.

Prior to their meeting, Cooper had been telling the town how excited he is to cross paths with Gyllenhaal at the award show. Speaking to Jimmy Kimmel earlier this month, the 15-year-old shared that his plan for the Emmys involves "chew[ing] Jake Gyllenhaal's ear off all night."

He added, "If I'm sat next to him, he's not gonna have a good night. I'm just gonna be talking to him the whole night."

The chatter has not been lost on Gyllenhaal, who jokes that he only showed up to surprise Cooper because "he's just been talking about me too much, so I just figured I'd stop it and get it done."

Cooper celebrated the meeting on Instagram, sharing photos and writing, "Honour and a privilege to meet an icon of the game like Jake and will never forget it."

Gyllenhaal replied, "The honor was mine man. Good luck tonight!!!!"
