Hollywood is mourning the loss of an undeniable force following the news of Diane Keaton's death.
The actress, who rose to fame for her iconic roles in beloved films such as *Annie Hall,* *The First Wives Club, The Godfather, *and many more, died in California, PEOPLE reported on Saturday. She was 79.**
Bette Midler, who costarred with Keaton in the beloved 1996 comedy *The First Wives Club*, reflected on her legacy with a heartfelt message.
"The brilliant, beautiful, extraordinary Diane Keaton has died," she wrote on Instagram, captioning a black-and-white photo of the Oscar winner. "I cannot tell you how unbearably sad this makes me. She was hilarious, a complete original, and completely without guile, or any of the competitiveness one would have expected from such a star. What you saw was who she was...oh, la, lala!"
Keaton appeared alongside Midler and Goldie Hawn in *The First Wives Club*, which followed three college friends who reunite for the first time in years at the funeral of their former classmate, who flung herself from her balcony. They soon realize that all of their ex-husbands have treated them poorly and decide to seek revenge. The comedy famously ended with the trio dramatically singing Lesley Gore's "You Don't Own Me."**

The late actress' other costars and friends also took to social media to share their tributes and memories.
Kimberly Williams-Paisley, who starred as Keaton's daughter in the *Father of the Bride* movies, posted a message alongside photos of the pair together on screen.
"Diane, working with you will always be one of the highlights of my life," she wrote. "You are one of a kind, and it was thrilling to be in your orbit for a time. Thank you for your kindness, your generosity, your talent, and above all, your laughter. 🙏🏻🕊️💔❤️❤️❤️."
Steve Martin, who also starred with Keaton in the *Father of the Bride* movies, posted a snippet from an *Interview* article in which his *Only Murders in the Building* costar Martin Short chatted with Keaton. In it, Short asked Keaton, "Who's sexier, me or Steve Martin?" to which she replied, "I mean, you're both idiots."
"Don't know who first posted this, but it sums up our delightful relationship with Diane," Martin captioned the tribute.
