Eric Dane opened up about his absence from the 2025 Emmy Awards, sharing that he had been hospitalized due to a bad fall amid his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis.

The *Grey's Anatomy* alum, 52, revealed that he lost his balance shortly before the telecast last month and fell hard in his kitchen in an interview with *The Washington Post* published Thursday. "ALS is a nasty disease," Dane said. "So I was in the hospital during the Emmys getting stitches put in my head."

Dane had been scheduled to present alongside *Grey's* costar Jesse Williams in tribute to the 20th anniversary of the hit medical drama. He said he was "really upset" to have missed it, "but you know, there was nothing I could do about it."**

Dane continued, "I missed an opportunity I was really looking forward to. It would have been great to see Jesse and get reunited with some of my peers, and to be able to present in front of my colleagues I thought would have been a special moment."**

Williams ultimately presented the award for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series solo during the Sept. 14 telecast. Before he hit the stage, Williams sang the praises of his former costar on the red carpet, calling Dane a "brother." "I loved working with him," Williams said. "On and off screen, that's my brother."**

Dane revealed that he was diagnosed with ALS, a neurodegenerative disease that affects the motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord, in April. He has spoken candidly about the journey, disclosing to Diane Sawyer in June that he has lost function in his right arm while his left one has been getting weaker. "I feel like maybe a couple more months and I won't have my left hand either," Dane said. "It's sobering."

Dane has said that he is determined to keep working despite the diagnosis. "It always feels great to be on a set. It's great to be employed," Dane said at the Los Angeles premiere of his series *Countdown* over the summer. "I love what I give. I'm going to keep doing it."

The star is set to reprise his role as Jacobs patriarch Cal, father to Jacob Elordi's Nate, in season 3 of HBO's *Euphoria*, expected to return in the spring of 2026.**
