Kristen Bell has restricted comments on a recent Instagram post, celebrating her 12th wedding anniversary to husband Dax Shepard.
Days after paying tribute to their relationship of two decades, Bell is at the center of controversy for downplaying domestic violence in the Friday post.
"Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: 'I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I'm heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would,'" Bell captioned the post, shared alongside a photo of her and Shepard embracing.
The criticism was swift, with fans in the comments section labeling the post "tone deaf" and "insensitive" for making light of violence in a relationship.
"Kristen there's no way you posted this during Domestic Violence Awareness month," one Instagram user replied, while another added, "That's… a very weird thing to say."
One user commented, "I've been a fan for a while. I just wanted to say that please don't joke about domestic violence. Please keep in mind that this is something real that lots of people suffer on a daily basis. And the text could be triggering for victims."
"Read the room hun," wrote another. "That's offensive."
Representatives for Bell and Shepard did not immediately respond to **'s requests for comment.

Bell's post wasn't solely met with criticism. Several fans and friends of the couple celebrated the joke, noting that it was fitting for their joint sense of humor.
"This is LOVE," wrote *Brooklyn Nine-Nine* alum Terry Crews, adding a heart and laughing emoji.
Comedian Howie Mandel quipped of Shepard's love declaration, "He should write for Hallmark."
*Nouvelle Vague* star Zoey Deutch wrote, "You guys are the best," while a fan added, "That's the most romantic thing I've heard."
Elsewhere, the official account for NBC's *Dateline* replied, "Screenshotted."

Bell and Shepard are no strangers to causing a social media upset. Earlier this year, the *Parenthood* alum incited anger for sharing a NSFW post of Bell doing nude yoga to celebrate the news of her *Nobody Wants This* Emmy nomination. While some fans were upset, Bell appeared unbothered and reshared the post to her own page.

Their latest controversy comes a day after Bell admitted to forgetting their wedding anniversary on the red carpet.
"Oh my God, it's my anniversary!" Bell exclaimed after being asked about the date on Thursday. "You know I don't remember that. Oh shoot, I'm so glad that you told me."
She joked of Shepard, "It helps that he doesn't remember, either. And no one's at fault here, right? We're just not great with dates."
The couple, who share two daughters, first met at a dinner party in 2007 and began dating later that year. They announced their engagement three years later and, after waiting for same-sex marriage to be legalized in California as a show of solidarity, tied the knot in 2013, seven months after welcoming their first child together, Lincoln. The couple welcomed their second daughter, Delta, in 2014.**
