The Black Flame Candle wasn't the only thing that lit up on the set of *Hocus Pocus*, according to original stars Omri Katz and Tobias Jelinek.

After Katz previously revealed to ** in a 2022 interview that he was often high while shooting the 1993 Disney classic about a trio of resurrected witches (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy) terrorizing a group of Salem youths (Katz, Vinessa Shaw, Thora Birch), fellow star Jelinek tells EW he smoked out with Katz — but only once.

Jelinek, who portrayed supporting character Jay (a bully who, alongside actor Larry Bagby's Ice, antagonizes Katz's Max at the start of the film), remembers Katz courting him to get high before rehearsal for a key scene helmed by director Kenny Ortega.**

"It was the pumpkin-smashing scene," Jelinek remembers of an outdoor sequence that takes place on the streets of suburban Salem on Halloween night. "Little Thora Birch was in there with us, probably wondering what's going on with these teenagers."

Jelinek says Katz bought a Volkswagen bus during filming, which he used to take Katz and Ortega to a Grateful Dead concert in San Francisco on a break from production.

After the pair departed, Jelinek says Katz had "left this giant nug of California green weed" in his microwave, as a present.

He later adds that Katz eventually "convinced me to smoke with him" at lunch before rehearsal for the aforementioned scene.

"I didn't smoke weed that much. I took a few puffs, I went into that rehearsal, and I was a mess. We were supposed to be running this scene with Kenny. I really couldn't hang," Jelinek says. "He was smoking weed throughout that entire shoot, and he knew how to handle it. I remember saying, 'Never again, Omri!'"

Jelinek, who recently appeared as serial killer Richard Speck in the finale of Netflix's *Monsters: The Ed Gein Story*, laughs at the memory and says he was "so embarrassed afterward, because I knew my eyes were red. Kenny was like, 'What's going on with you, Tobias?' I was just toast. I couldn't hear anything!"

In his prior interview with EW, Katz said that production of the film coincided with his budding interest in marijuana, before he began his Mary Danksters business that specializes in cannabis.

"That was at an age where I started experimenting with cannabis. Let's just say, some of those scenes, I was having a good old time," Katz said in 2022.

"I'll tell you what I do remember: I was misperforming and not hitting my keys or marks. Kenny comes up to me and practically grabs me by the shirt, and he was like, 'Are you high?' and I was like, 'No,' and of course, I was," he continued. "We got it done, but that was kind of a wake-up call, like, Omri, you've got to be a little more professional and make sure you hit your cues!"

Many of the original stars — outside of Midler, Parker, Najimy, and Billy Butcherson actor Doug Jones — reprised their roles in *Hocus Pocus 2* in 2022, though most have since told EW they'd return for *Hocus Pocus 3* if Disney asked.

"It's such a fun story, and obviously having us reminisce about this makes it that much more fun and the fondness keeps growing," Shaw previously told EW, while Katz confirmed he'd be "100 percent down to do it" if he received the opportunity. Similarly, Jason Marsden, who voiced Binx the cat, said he'd "absolutely" do a third film.
