A woman told Reddit that she planned to get surgery after major weight loss

Her husband argued that she should prioritize having another baby instead

She wondered if choosing her own well-being first made her "selfish"

A woman asked the Reddit community for advice after clashing with her husband about choosing to undergo skin removal surgery instead of having another child right now.

"This is a really hard post to write, but I really if I'm the a------," she begins. Two years ago, she weighed 260 pounds and said she was "horribly depressed," even though she had a loving husband and two young children.

She explained that her husband met her when she was at her lowest. "He loved me anyway despite all of this which I feel is important to specify," she wrote.

After years of work, she managed to lose over 100 pounds. "So fast forward two years I am now 157lbs, it has been a really difficult time for me to shed all that weight," she explained.

Her husband, she noted, didn't play much of a role in her weight loss journey. "I would say my husband throughout was kind of neutral about the whole thing. He didn't encourage me but didn't discourage me either."

Now that she has lost the weight, she struggles with how her body looks. "With weight loss of course there is going to be loose skin, which makes me incredibly self-conscious," she shared. "Even though I have done all this work I still want to get that fixed."

When she told her husband she planned to get surgery, he reacted strongly. "He flipped out saying he wanted another kid and told me I was selfish for choosing my surgery over his wish for another baby," she explained.

She emphasized that she is not against having more children down the line. "I have two children, I'm not against the idea of having another, just not now," she wrote.

Her husband disagreed and told her that waiting would mean they would never have another baby. "I told him I was sorry he felt that way but I want to put myself first and we can discuss adding to the family at a later date," she explained. "It's not a no it's a not right now."

Instead of accepting that, he became more upset. "He stormed out, told his whole family that I am denying him another kid because I'm selfish and vain," she wrote.

Now she is questioning her choice and wondering if she is in the wrong. "I really don't know what to think," she admitted. "I see it from his side but he's seen how hard I've worked to change my life and I feel upset he would call me selfish."

The woman, who is 27, also shared that her husband is 31. She described the situation as deeply painful since she has worked hard on her health and wants to feel comfortable in her own body.

A fellow Redditor responded, saying, "You wanting skin removal surgery is 110% valid. However, do you also want a 3rd child? Because if so, then as unpleasant, unwarranted & gross as your husband's outburst might've been, he's not entirely wrong that you should probably wait."

The commenter pointed out that her needs matter just as much as her husband's wishes. "If YOU don't want another child then tell him f--- off. His wish for a third baby is NOT higher ranking than your NEED to feel comfortable in your own skin," they add.

In response, the woman revealed more about her feelings toward expanding her family. "I want a baby but I am content with what I have," she explained. "If I could have a baby and not have horrid postpartum depression and not gain weight that would damage my mental health I would."
