Just two years after *Riverdale* came to its dramatic conclusion, Archie Andrews is plotting his return to television screens once again — and, this time around, things are about to get a whole lot spookier. **
Disney+ is currently developing a new horror series titled *Afterlife With Archie, *has learned. Deadline was the first to report the news.
The hour-long drama, which has received a script-to-series commitment, is based on Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Francesco Francavilla ultra-popular comic book series of the same name and will follow its titular redheaded high schooler as he faces off against a new wave of supernatural forces. **

And it might just be love at first bite. A logline for the series reveals that *Afterlife With Archie* "re-imagines the beloved town of Riverdale as an apocalyptic, nightmare-fueled hellscape overrun with flesh-eating zombies."
Aguirre-Sacasa, who also works as chief creative officer for Archie Comics, is set to serve as both a writer and executive producer on *Afterlife With Archie* alongside fellow executive producers Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman of Berlanti Productions; Jon Goldwater of Archie Comics Studios; and Jimmy Gibbons of Muckle Man Productions.
The project will see Aguirre-Sacasa's Muckle Man Productions and Greg Berlanti's Berlanti Productions, which both have deals with Warner Bros. Television, team up once again after previously joining forces on *Riverdale* and its Netflix spinoff series, *The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina*.**

However, it is currently unclear if any of the *Riverdale* cast— including KJ Apa, who played Archie — will be reprising their roles in the forthcoming supernatural series.
Released in 2017, *Riverdale* sought to put a darker spin on the typically bubbly world of Archie Comics. Over the course of its wildly wonderful seven seasons, the CW series saw its cast solve murders, face off against cults, go to prison, fight bears, go back in time, and gain superpowers — and, *somehow*, that's just the tip of the iceberg.

A spinoff to the highly-popular series centering around everyone's favorite teenage witch, Sabrina Spellman (Kiernan Shipka), titled *The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,* was later released in 2018. The Netflix series ran for two seasons before ultimately coming to an end in 2020.
This isn't the Riverdale gang's only upcoming comeback. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are currently developing a live-action Archie Comics movie from screenwriter Tom King.
